Plate heat exchanger price and cost factors
Plate heat exchanger price depends on the agreed process duty and supply scope. A useful quotation starts with engineering inputs, so that equipment options can be compared on the same basis.
Why there is no single PHE price
Two units with similar external dimensions can have different plate areas, materials, seals, pressure requirements and documentation. Connection size or a photograph alone does not establish a comparable specification.
PHE-INDIA supplies Industrial PHE and Food Grade PHE. Share your application for a duty-based quotation. This guide does not publish generic price ranges, because they would not establish the cost of your selected unit.
Technical factors that shape a quotation
| Factor | Why it matters | Information to send |
|---|---|---|
| Heat duty and temperatures | Required heat-transfer area depends on the temperature programme as well as duty. | Inlet/outlet temperatures and flow for both fluids; heat duty if known. |
| Fluid and flow rate | Viscosity, solids and concentration affect the channel choice and hydraulic design. | Fluid names, composition, flow range and relevant properties. |
| Operating and design conditions | Pressure, temperature and allowable pressure drop affect the selection. | Normal and maximum conditions for each side; allowable pressure drop. |
| Plate material and plate count | Material compatibility and required area influence the plate pack. | Material preference, corrosion/cleaning exposure and any existing unit details. |
| Gasket material | The seal must suit both operating and cleaning conditions. | Fluid and cleaning chemistry, temperature and cycle details. |
| Connections and frame | Connection size, orientation and service access affect integration. | Connection specification, layout and space constraints. |
| Customization and documentation | Additional supply requirements change the scope being quoted. | Drawings, agreed tests, documentation, accessories and delivery requirements. |
Compare quotations on the same basis
Confirm that suppliers have used the same fluids, flow rates, inlet/outlet temperatures and pressure-drop limits. A lower purchase figure may reflect a different duty, material or scope.
- Check the proposed plate/gasket specification and agreed operating limits.
- Identify what is included: exchanger, accessories, documentation, packing, transport, installation or commissioning support.
- Confirm taxes, delivery terms, quotation validity, payment terms and any applicable warranty in the actual commercial offer.
- For replacements, confirm identification and compatibility before comparing parts prices.
These are comparison questions, not a statement that every quotation includes every listed item. Use the engineering checklist to align the technical basis.
Purchase price and operating cost
Consider pump energy, cleaning effort, service access and replacement consumables alongside purchase cost. Pressure drop influences pumping requirements; fouling can change both thermal and hydraulic performance. Compare the proposed unit under the same operating assumptions.
An openable gasketed frame supports inspection and part replacement, but maintenance still requires time, isolation and the correct procedure. Ask for the gasket and plate identification details needed for future service. No payback or savings percentage can be established without process and cost data.
Prepare your quotation request
Send the application, both fluids, flow rates, inlet/outlet temperatures, operating/design pressure, allowable pressure drop and material or cleaning requirements. Add plant location, connection needs and the desired supply scope. For a replacement, include the nameplate and photographs.
If an input is unknown, identify it as unknown rather than guessing. Send your requirement; the contact form includes optional technical fields so that you can provide what is available.
Price questions
Can you quote just from the required capacity?
Capacity without the fluid, temperature programme and flow conditions is incomplete. Provide the operating basis so the required heat-transfer area and hydraulic limits can be assessed.
Is the cheapest plate material always the best choice?
Material must first suit the fluid and cleaning conditions. An unsuitable material can compromise service life and process reliability; compare cost only after compatibility is established.
Can I price replacement gaskets from a photograph?
A photograph helps identification, but model, plate pattern, gasket material and service conditions are also needed. Confirm the part specification before purchase.
